Josh Small and I first met at Suburban Home’s 11th Anniversary shows. Josh, you see, plays in Tim Barry’s band. He plays the banjo and the dobro and is a very talented musician. After seeing Tim, Josh, and Caitlin play for the first time in Ft Collins opening for Drag the River, we all had some beers and went over to Jon Snodgrass’ house to hang out. Tim, Josh, and Jon started jamming just playing guitar and singing song ideas back and forth. There were lots of PBR being drunk and what I witnessed was one of the coolest musical moments I had ever witnessed. Throughout all my geeking out, I was just floored the songs that Josh sang. I loved it so much, I asked him if he would record a record on Suburban Home. To my delight, he agreed and this album, “Tall by Josh Small” is his first for Suburban Home.
When I try to describe what Josh does, it is hard for me to explain. Tim Barry calls it 70’s folk, I like to think of it has a soulful, bluesy roots record whatever that means. There is a lot of emotion in Josh’s voice and the record has a really beautiful, mellow vibe. I don’t know who to compare him to so you will just have to check it out and decide for yourself. This record is amazing and that I can say without any hesitation.

when you create a playlist in itunes – select all the tracks and under the “sorting” tab, title the “sort album” as the name of the playlist, and under the “options” tab, click the “part of a complilation” check box and select “yes”. easy peasy. that way it doesn’t change the name of the artists or albums, but the playlist stays organized.
oh – i missed a step… after you’ve selected all the tracks, right click and choose “get info”. it’ll ask you if you want to edit multiple artist info… just say yes.
i make a lot of playlists…
I CAN’T F&%#ING BELIEVE IT! This news is better than Christmas!

the lack of any MD dates makes me sad.
i so wish i could make this. gonna be a great time.
Should play the Dover Brick House in Dover, NH. Two Cow Garage gets a lot of play in the bar and they have a great set up for live shows.
I am pretty thrilled about tonights St Pete show. I have not seen Drag/Jon in over a year. Even though they’ve been back to FL several times since. That article by Scott on Nine Bullets pretty much sums up my thoughts on DTR and music in general.
So excited for this
Dude is that Obama?
