We are excited to post the details about Suburban Home’s 13th Anniversary weekend. Words cannot even begin to describe how excited we are about becoming a teenager. 13 years is an eternity in the music industry and honestly, I still can’t believe that releasing some of my favorite albums on the planet is what I do for a living. Thanks to all of you who have been along for the ride even if just for the past year. We have a fun-filled weekend and hope that all of you can make it.

We made a little streamable mix tape. Listen to songs from all of the acts playing Suburban Home’s 13th Anniversary:

After releasing 3 really incredible albums, Columbus, Ohio’s Two Cow Garage are back with the greatest release of their career. Having received comparisons to bands like Lucero and the Drive By Truckers, “Speaking In Cursive” finds the band moving past their influences and finding their sound. Comments on the new songs have compared the band to an alt-country Lawrence Arms which I had never quite thought of until it was brought up. Regardless of comparisons, the album rocks and will fit in nicely with your punk, alt-country, and/or rock records.

I should note that Jon Snodgrass of Drag the River has fully taken Two Cow Garage under his supervision and will tell anyone who will listen that Two Cow are one of the greatest bands on the planet. Two Cow Garage are one of the hardest working bands on the planet. I really hope this album gets them the attention they deserve.

Do yourself a favor and see them when they play the Fest this year and expect to see them out with Drag the River, Glossary, and others this fall.

The vinyl is being pressed on 2 colors (300 on Gold, 700 on Opaque Brown).

This is a very limited edition collection (out of 50 sets) get the following

2 copies of the album on vinyl (1 Gold / 1 Opaque Brown)

a copy of the album on CD

a Two Cow Garage pint glass

a Two Cow Garage T-shirt (we finally figured out how to select your shirt size)

a Two Cow Garage coozie

a Two Cow Garage button

Records, CDs, and Deluxe sets will ship towards the end of September. The vinyl will come with an mp3 coupon. Test pressing contest winner will be announced in october.

Check out an mp3 for “Your Humble Narrator”

Suburban Home records could not be more excited about signing Austin Lucas. I had first heard of him when I picked up a split 7” with him and Chuck Ragan. The split inspired me to pick up his latest album, “Putting the Hammer Down” released by Magic Bullet/Hometown Caravan and I just fell in love. I had emailed Austin asking him to be a part of our Under the Influence spilt 7” series and was happy to hear that he was interested in contributing. Assuming I was waiting on his next correspondence, I hadn’t written him back for some months and then one day while talking to Mike Hale, Mike had mentioned that Austin had recently relocated to Portland, Oregon, from Praha, Czech Republic. I did not know this at the time, but Mike and Austin are good friends. Mike told me that I should give Austin a call and talk. I did just that and right away, Austin and I hit it off. Our conversation led to a few emails, which lead to a discussion of us possibly releasing his next album. Not being one to stop on someone’s toes, especially a great label like Magic Bullet, we both asked for the label’s blessing in putting out Austin’s next album and today, I am excited to say that Austin Lucas is the latest artist to join the Suburban Home family.

Austin will be rounding out the year by joining Chuck Ragan, Tim Barry, and Ben Nichols on a few dates of the Revival Tour as well as a performance at this year’s Fest. He has been writing what will be his debut for Suburban Home which he plans to record in Ohio employing his family to play and record. We hope to have this album out in March of 2009.

We are so excited to have Austin a part of our family. He has one of the greatest voices in roots music and his lyrics really cut to the core.

Hey friends, if you are in either Denver or Colorado Springs, I wanted to tell you about 2 really great shows. My good friend Mike Park, owner of Asian Man Records and one hell of a musician, is coming to Colorado with his good buddy, Chris McCaughan, who goes by the moniker Sundowner when playing solo although better known as one of the vocalists of the Lawrence Arms. Both Mike and Chris will be joined by the Quiet Ones who are a killer rock band from Seattle that I have been thinking about doing a record for. Check them out, they are pretty amazing. And Scooter James from Love Me Destroyer will be opening the show in Denver while Andy Tanner from Laymen Terms will be opening the show in Colorado Springs.

To recap

What: Mike Park and Sundowner w/ the Quiet Ones, Scooter James (Friday), and Andy Tanner (Saturday)

When/Where: Friday, August 22nd at the Marquis in Denver; Saturday, August 23rd at the Black Sheep in Colroado Springs

Buy Tickets at Soda Jerk Presents.

Joey Cape is one of my favorite songwriters and when I first started Suburban Home, I would have never in a million years believe that one day, I would be releasing his first solo album. I am pinching myself as I write this, but I haven’t woken up. “Bridge” isn’t Joey’s first solo release as he put out a split album with Tony Sly on Fat, but this is his first full album of solo material. Hopefully for all of us, this will be the first of many to come. I have followed Joey’s songwriting since I first heard “Know it All” on a Fat Wreck Comp Ages ago, loved everything that followed with Lagwagon and then Bad Astronaut, and was lucky enough to release the Playing Favorites. I don’t know a songwriter that has a better track record and this solo album delivers in every way, shape, or form. I love the album as a fan and as a label, I am so fucking ecstatic that this will be out on Suburban Home / Vinyl Collective.

Don’t take my word for it though. Please check out this mp3 of “Errands” which begins the album. Also stop by Joey’s Myspace page to listen to “No Little Pill”. Some of the songs have been recorded as Lagwagon songs, but between you and me, they work better as solo tracks (and this is coming from a big Lagwagon fan).

We are offering the album on vinyl (300 on Chocolate Milk, 700 on Army Green), CD, and as a deluxe set. The deluxe set will include:

Both colors of the vinyl for “Bridge” (Chocolate Milk and Army Green)

The CD version of “Bridge”

A T-shirt (it has the same face from the album cover, on a dark blue shirt, and reads “WWJD?” as in What Would Joey Do? and on the back will be a surprising answer.

A Pint Glass (it also has the same face from the album cover that also reads “WWJD?” as in What Would Joey Drink? and should come with a little note that explains some of Joey’s favorite libations.

A beer coozie

A button

A poster (11 x 17 glossy album poster which will be folded in half)

This will be a killer deluxe set for an amazing album. Only 100 sets will be offered. There is a chance that we might offer the shirts and pint glasses individually but right now, we are not sure.

There is a test pressing contest so good luck. And we hope to ship both the LP and the CD towards the end of September before it’s release date in october.

So now that all of our Deluxe LaGrecia sets have all been sent out, and shirts that Sal and Dana had requested have been sent out, we have about 20 shirts leftover. If you ever wanted a shirt, now is your chance. It is not very likely that these will ever be reprinted. As you can tell from the photo, this is a great shirt. NOTE: these are printed on american apparel which tend to run smaller.
