JON SNODGRASS/ CORY BRANAN split CASSETTE
Friends, we are so excited to share with you this split recording from Jon Snodgrass and Cory Branan. Jon should need no introduction as he has been writing and recording some of the greatest records with Drag the River, Armchair Martian, and on his own. Cory is one of my favorite singer/songwriters not on Suburban Home and am so honored to be able to put out this record. These 7 songs were recorded in Colorado with Jon and Cory playing on each other’s songs. Cory contributes 3 originals, Jon contributes 2 originals and 2 covers. The record is absolutely amazing. I hope you enjoy the stream and if you do, please consider sharing it with a friend. Post it on your blog, on Myspace, and if you don’t mind, please retweet this.
Remember that there is no CD version of this release. We are only doing LP, Cassette, and digitally. The LP and Cassette come with a download coupon. The LP is out of an edition of 1,000 copies (500 on Sun Colored Vinyl, 500 on Moon colored vinyl) and the cassette is out of an edition of 200 copies. For the time being, you will get a poster with your purchase. We have the cassettes in stock and will have the vinyl mid week next week. Get this before they are all gone.

As most of you know, Mike Hale has dedicated his life to the road. Most of that time will be spent performing solo, but whenever possible, In the Red, will also be touring. While Mike was wrapping up a tour with Ninja Gun, we had been talking about finding a good tour for In the Red to do in July and as fate would have it our friends in Anchor Down were putting together a tour with Bastards of Young and Drunken Boat. The routing we had planned ran into their tour so it came up why not do the tour together. Luckily for us, the bands on the tour were ok with adding another band and as the tour got finalized, we also discussed the possibility of a tour 7″. It really is amazing that all 4 bands either had a song or were recording a new song and that this all came together as quickly as it did. The In the Red track, “Here We All Die” was from a session in between the recordings of Volume 1 and Volume 2. As you might guess, the sound fits somewhere in between, too. The other tracks were recorded recently specifically for this 4 way split and let me say that all 4 songs are fantastic. I had already been a big fan of Anchor Down and their track is excellent. I wasn’t as familiar with Bastards of Young or Drunken Boat, but their songs are amazing and they can both count me as a fan now. This is an excellent record.
The pressing info is a little confusing. Let me start by explaining that there are 4 different colors of jackets for the silk-screened jackets (250 of each). Each band picked a color of paper : In the Red (Cherry), Anchor Down (Grey), Bastards of Young (Ivory), and Drunken Boat (Canary). The vinyl will be pressed out of an edition of 1,000 copies (300 on red vinyl, 700 on black vinyl). So for you mathletes out there, the breakdown will be
75 Red vinyl on Cherry paper, 75 Red vinyl on Grey paper, 75 Red vinyl on Ivory paper, 75 Red vinyl on Canary Paper
175 Black vinyl on Cherry paper, 175 Black vinyl on Grey paper, 175 Black vinyl on Ivory paper, 175 Black vinyl on Canary Paper
Understand that we did not do this to make people buy more than one version (or 8 variants), but it was suggested that on the tour, it would be cool if each band had their own version of the record. I opted not to sell a set with all 8 variants either because I did not want to encourage buying all 8. I do encourage you buy one copy as the record is bad ass.
Track Listing:
In the Red “Here We All Die”
Anchor Down “All Perfume”
Bastards of Young “Earthquake Weather”
Drunken Boat “Hell Freezes Over”
Pre-order this record and enter for a chance to win a test pressing. We should have copies of the vinyl by late July, early August.
JOSH SMALL “Tall by Josh Small” double LP frosty green vinyl
I still remember the first time I saw Josh Small jamming in Jon Snodgrass’ garage with Jon and Tim Barry. I was blown away as he song parts of songs that would eventually make up “Tall”. And since the release of “Tall”, Josh has been keeping super busy. He has toured all over in support of this album and currently, he is on tour in Europe with Mike Hale and Austin Lucas. When he gets home, he will begin recording a new album and if the demos I have are any indication, this is going to be an incredible album.
When we first pressed “Tall”, we did a pressing of only 200 copies. We put it out not because we thought it would be a big seller, but because we loved the album and wanted to have a copy on wax. That first pressing sold out even at the really high price we had to set because of how small the pressing was. This new repress is out of an edition of 500 copies on Frosty Green Vinyl. We are splitting the pressing with our friends at Hometown Caravan so we will have 250 copies. The price has gone down and the color of vinyl should match the silk-screened jacket. Pre-order this album and enter for a chance to win a test pressing. Good luck.
If you missed out on the original pressing, no problem. You should make sure though that you get a copy of this pressing. Take a listen to the full album stream below and if you dig it, please share it with others. This is a beautiful album that sounds like it was made in the 70’s folk scene.
VINYL COMES WITH A DIGITAL DOWNLOAD COUPON AND WE SHOULD HAVE COPIES BY NEXT WEEK.
I ripped off this idea form Topspin Media who did the same thing for their Metric deluxe set. Here my friends is a video showing you what you get if you purchase the Yesterday’s Ring “Diamonds in the Ditch” deluxe set. Brandon filmed me showing off the double LP, the CD, the pint glass, the button, the poster, and the coozie. If you ask me, it is a hell of a deal at $40. We still have some left so I recommend that you pick it up. You can find the item at this link.
Here is where we ask for your help and reward one helper. If you have a twitter account, please RETWEET this post. Please include in the tweet the tag for Vinyl Collective which is #vinylcollective. We will select one of the retweeters and that person will receive a deluxe set for free. Thanks for your help.
If you haven’t heard the album yet, you can stream it with our embeddable streaming player. Take a listen, the record is one of the most powerful Country-influenced Punk records I have ever heard.

Andy Thomas and Ralph Eberhard are quickly becoming the Larry Appleton and Balki Bartokomous of podcasting. Andy Thomas took time out of his busy schedule to bring another excellent podcast this time with Under the Influencers Ninja Gun and Whiskey and Co. Andy starts off with an interview with Kim Helm, singer of Whiskey and Co. She explains the band’s love of the Pogues and how this cover is of a song performed by the Pogues but without Shane MacGowen and how they decided to cover it. They discuss how the split with Ninja Gun came to be and some of the other songs they have covered. The podcast features the original version of “Tuesday Morning”, the song Whiskey and Co covered as well as an original Whiskey and Co song, “Leaving the Night Life”. Andy also had a nice conversation with Coody, singer of Ninja Gun and one of the biggest bullshitters I know, who elaborated on his many future side-projects (Nerd Sex for one sounds like an interesting group, Aids in the Pool will feature Seabron of Suburban Home). He also hints at a tour that he can’t announce yet which we now know is the Fake Problems tour happening in July. The podcast features “This is Where I Belong” by the Kinks, the song that Ninja Gun covered as well as an original by Ninja Gun, “Restless Rubes”. This is a great Podcast (running in at around 37 minutes). I highly recommend you give it a listen. You can stream it here or Subscribe to the Vinyl Collective Podcast at this link. Our streaming player also has the Fake Problems/Look Mexico UTI podcast, the Snodcast, and the Austin Lucas/Frank Turner UTI podcast on it. If you haven’t listened to it, I recommend you do so now. Thanks Andy and Ralph for putting together a great Podcast. Find out more about our Under the Influence series, stream the tracks, and purchase the records by visiting the UTI page on Vinyl Collective.

These 4 songs were recorded right after Austin finished recording his breakthrough album, “Somebody Loves You”. While doing some shows and spending time with family in Florida, Austin hooked up with Suburban Home’s newest band, the Takers, to record 4 songs together. The songs include 2 covers and 2 originals.

Suburban Home Pick 5 for $25 Sale (CDs, Vinyl, Pint Glasses)
We just got in the new Yesterday’s Ring pint glasses and will be sending out those deluxe sets once we get the vinyl (hoping for tomorrow, but it is more likely next week). We also got in more of the Dillinger Four, Joey Cape, and Ninja Gun Pint Glasses. They are available individually or through our pick 5 and pick 10 sales. I think today is as good as any to update your glassware. There are a lot of other pint glasses to choose from like Austin Lucas, Drag the River, Tim Barry, and more. What would be better than to serve some beers at your house with glasses from some of your favorite bands.

The Takers “Taker Easy” [mp3]
We are so fucking excited to be putting out the debut album for the Takers and we can’t wait for you to hear the title track from the album. The song, “Taker Easy” might be my favorite song from the album, although there are about 3 or 4 songs that take that distinction depending on the day. The song gives you a pretty good taste of what to expect and for me, the album reminds me of the Country and Western my dad played for me in his pickup truck. He would actually be rolling over in his grave if he knew we worked with bands like the Takers. As a kid, I had no love for the genre, but it is funny how your life takes you down a lot of different paths and at the end, you find yourself loving the music you once hated.
I said it before, I’ll say it again. The Takers are Suburban Home’s Outlaw Country band. They should be sent back in time to share the stage with, Johnny, and Waylon, but lucky for us, they are a band now. I love this band, I love this record, and I hope you might consider taking a listen. If you like what you hear, please consider downloading the track and sharing it with others. Put it on a mix tape, send the link to friends, post it on your blog. And while you are at it, make sure you pre-order their upcoming album (and while you are there, don’t forget their Curse of a Drunk 7″ and their split with Austin Lucas).
The Takers releases for sale in the Vinyl Collective/Suburban Home store
We are working on a huge contest with Punknews and are hoping to give away a bottle of whiskey to one lucky Punknews reader. Stay tuned for that (still trying to work out the logistics).

POSTER TUBE
Ralph just put the finishing touches on one of the most badass posters I have ever set my eyes on. We love the poster so much and are certain that you, too, will love it. We decided to throw the poster in for free on all of the Jon Snodgrass/Cory Branan split pre-orders. If you have already ordered, do nothing. If you haven’t ordered, do so soon so that you will get this great poster for free. Add a poster tube to your cart, if you don’t want the poster folded in half.
Read the following sentence as if you were doing the voice-over for an Infomercial: “WAIT, THERE’S MORE! WHILE SUPPLIES LAST, GET THIS FREE POSTER WITH YOUR ORDER AT NO ADDITIONAL COST. OPERATORS ARE STANDING BY.”
Consider this just a gentle reminder to pick up one of the greatest split LPs of 2009.
