With less than 2 weeks from our 15th Anniversary weekend, I figured I would put together a post with everything going on over the long weekend. I am very excited to have a beer with each and every one of you. I am so thankful that so many of you have decided to fly into Colorado from all parts of the United States. I guarantee a fantastic weekend.

Thursday, September 9th at Sputnik (7 South Broadway)
My good friend, Mike Howard, spins records every Thursday night at Sputnik. Since there are a handful of folks coming into town on Thursday, September 9th, I will be joining Mike that night to spin records. I will play some of my favorite Suburban Home tracks, as well some of my favorite Punk, Country, Indie, Pop, and Gangsta Rap. Sputnik has incredible food, a full bar, and some tasty beers (on top and in bottles/cans). Everyone is welcome to hang out early, but we won’t be playing music til around 10pm.

Saturday, September 11th at The Lobby (22nd and Arapahoe) at 10am – HANGOVER BRUNCH
Charles Sinden is a good buddy of mine and happens to be one of my favorite Chefs at one of my favorite restaurants, The Lobby. Charles has agreed to put together a special brunch complete with bloody mary’s for all who make it out. I know that 10 am is early, but it will be worth it and gives everyone an excuse to get out of bed in time for our Beer Tour.

Saturday, September 11th starting at noon – Craft Beer/Whiskey Distillery tour RESERVE A BUS SPOT
Every year for our Anniversary weekend, we get a lot of out of towners. It was mentioned this year that we should consider putting together a Craft brewery tour for those folks and that is exactly what is happening. A 55 passenger bus has been chartered, but due to the high expense of the bus, spots are being sold. Things will start at noon at Great Divide brewery which is across the street from The Lobby. Great Divide actually agreed to open up 2 hours early for our crew and will be giving a tour of the brewery. From Great Divide, we will visit Wynkoop which isn’t a household name (yet), but make some of the greatest beers. From The Wynkoop, we will be going to Stranahans Colorado Whiskey Distillery. Stranahans will only be able to give 30 people a tour since that is their cap so we will let the out of towners have first shot at this. From Stranahans, we will visit Oskar Blues in Longmont. From Oskar Blues, we will had to Avery in Boulder. I will be giving reminders to everyone to pace themselves. Especially out of towners need to be warned that drinking a mile high is not like drinking at sea level. And the beers at most of these places (and the whiskey) are all of higher ABVs. The tour will go from noon to 7pm. (I recommend a disco nap before the show on Saturday night)

Sunday, September 12th at 2pm at Berkeley park (46th and Tennyson) – BBQ and Washer’s Tournament
Every year, we wrap up the weekend with a BBQ and everyone is invited. Since the schedule is a bit different than last year, I will be asking our artists to bring their guitars so that we could have some acoustic performances while we eat and drink. Bring a side dish or some meat and some beer; there will be a grill, and I will be securing the picnic area so there will be plenty of seating. We always do a washer’s tournament so bring your A game! And last year, someone brought Stump which could be one of the greatest games ever. Come hang out with all of us and we can recount all the things that happened over the weekend.

Sunday, September 12th at Surfside 7 (Ft Collins) – Tim Barry
Jon Snodgrass recently took over the Surfside 7 and has been getting so many incredible artists to play here. On the Sunday after most of our festivities, Tim Barry will be playing an intimate set at the Surfside. I’m not yet sure that I will be making it out for this show, but if you can, I highly recommend it.

Today, in Tallahassee, Florida, Look Mexico starts a short tour with O’Brother. If you are anywhere around the dates listed below, do yourself a favor and see these cats live. Additionally, the guys are playing with Drag the River and Cory Branan in Austin on September 3rd. Wish I could be down there for that.

Drag the River (Jon and Chad) are currently driving with Mr. Cory Branan on their way to Lawrence, Kansas, to start what will be an almost 2 week tour of the Midwest and a few shows South. Jon wanted me to let everyone know that the Chicago shows are early, they will be playing at like 7pm. If you are anywhere near these shows, you can’t miss em. If you are not familiar with any of the artists, you can pretty much listen to every artist in our Listening Station.

Our friends, the Fasano brothers, will be starting things off each night in the basement of 3 Kings Tavern at 7pm. Shows will start at 8pm each night. Our anniversary weekend is less than 3 weeks away. Out of towners, have you purchased your plane tickets? Have you purchased tickets for the show? You can look to past posts about the anniversary weekend for info on hotel rooms, our hangover brunch and beer tour, and our BBQ/Washer’s Tournament. I hope to have a beer with every single one of you.

Suburban Home 15th Anniversary Beer Tour Bus Spot Reservation – $20.00

While I still have a few more details to iron out, I have just booked the Charter Bus for Suburban Home Records 15th Annivesary Craft Beer Tour. While the folks at Colorado Charter Lines could not confirm that we will be getting the bus in the above photograph, the bus will look a lot like this. The bus seats 55 people and I am hoping that most of you will consider joining us. Due to the high expense of renting the bus, the cost of getting a seat on the bus will be $20 per person. I know, that is very pricey, but not only will you be safely driven to 4 breweries and 1 distillery, our friends at the Wynkoop will be supplying beers for all to drink during the beer tour.

Here is a breakdown of how things will be laid out:

• Hangover Brunch at 10am (yes, I know that is early) at the Lobby
• Great Divide Brewery
• Wynkoop Brewery
• Oskar Blues Brewery
• Avery Brewery
• Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey Distillery

I am still ironing out the times for each place and trying to get each brewery/distillery to give us a tour. I will warn everyone about a hundred times to please watch how much they drink. Especially you out of towners, drinking in Denver is a lot different than drinking in a town with little to no elevation. Being a mile high makes drinking have that much more of an affect on you. I really hope people don’t get so drunk they are time traveling during our show that night.

Warnings aside, this is going to be an amazing day. We will be doing the tour from around noon to 6pm and I am working on having the Bus take folks back to the hotel that most of us are staying at. I think I will have Avery in boulder be our last stop so that some people can nap back to Denver. Expect final details soon, but please reserve your spot now. I would hate to see you miss out on such a great time.

In addition to shows, hangover brunch, beer tour, barbecue, and washer’s tournament, our good friends Charly and Vincent have helped organize what should be an incredible art show for Suburban Home Records’ 15th Anniversary celebrations. I could not be more excited about the people involved and hope everyone ventures downstairs to see all of the contributing artists’ work:

Artists Charly “the city mouse” Fasano and Vincent Cheap have united once again under the moniker Dumb Guy’s Brother to produce an art series in the Phoenix Gallery at Three Kings Tavern. Dumb Guy’s Brother was created in Fort Collins, Colorado in 1996 as a collected effort to bring a rock and roll starved farm town punk and indie concerts. Now, they are determined to present the city of Denver with a series of events throughout 2010 and 2011 that will feature an eclectic range of artists, comedians, writers, musicians and film-makers.

As part of the Suburban Home Records 15th Anniversary Weekend, Yellow Rake Zine, Lubricated Magazine and Fast Geek Press will present an art show that will be held in the Phoenix Gallery in the basement of Three Kings Tavern on Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11. The art show will showcase painters, poets, fiction writers, movie-makers and photographers from Colorado, Florida and California that have supported Suburban Home Records over the years.

On Friday, September 10 the art show will present a collection of short films by John Botts, Charly Fasano and Vincent Fasano (silent short accompanied live by his music project Booger Sugar). The movies begin at 7 pm.

On Saturday, September 11 the art show will present the Yellow Rake Zine new issue release party which will include a reading featuring poet, Charly “the city mouse” Fasano, and fiction writers, Brian Polk of Yellow Rake Zine, Josiah Hesse and Zach Boddicker of Drag the River and 4H Royalty. The reading will begin at 7 pm.

The Phoenix Gallery will be open for the duration of the weekend between 6 pm and 12:00 am.

Listen to “Falling Apart” by THE GAMITS!

Stop what you are doing and go visit Paper and Plastick so you can hear the first song posted from the Gamits’ upcoming album, “Parts”. I believe that Paper and Plastick are accepting pre-orders now for the CD version of the new album, but in early September (date to be announced), we (Suburban Home/VC) along with Paper and Plastick will be posting pre-orders for the Gamits’ new album on vinyl, CD, and digitally. Here is a breakdown of the first pressing for Parts:

Today, I am very proud to announce that Lizzie Huffman is joining our 15th Anniversary line up. This will be Lizzie’s first time to Denver so please help us give her a warm welcome during the celebrations. At the bottom of this post, I have put a streaming player so you can listen to the 10″ we released for Lizzie Huffman. I am really excited, this will actually be my first time seeing her play.

Sunday, September 12th BBQ/Washers Tournament/Acoustic Sets at The Park – we’ll cook food, drink beer, play washers (and stump), and we’ll have some of the Suburban Home family doing an old-fashioned hootenanny. More than likely we will do things at Berkeley Park, but we are working out the details.

If you are from out of town, make sure you book your tickets soon. I just bought tickets from Seattle to Denver and was surprised at how nice the prices were.
