Jon Snodgrass has been a touring machine; after a European tour with Joey Cape and Tony Sly, Jon flew to Florida to do a handful of shows with his good buddy Cory Branan. Austin Lucas is playing the Orlando date. Jon and Cory are doing a handful of dates that will end at Harvest of Hope. Jon will then come home for some much needed rest.

If you live near any of the dates, please go to the show. Snodgrass might be jet-lagged, but I’m sure he will rock you  and hang out all night.

Austin Lucas just sent me over dates for a tour of the U.K. El Morgan will be doing the entire tour. Darren from Crazy Arm will be playing the first 4 dates. We figured that since Two Cow Garage are in town this week and have short driving times in between shows, we should take advantage of the situation by having Micah Schnabel perform songs from his solo album, “When the Stage Light Goes Dim”. Tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 9th, we put together a FREE pre-show show with Micah Schnabel at one of our favorite restaurants, The Lobby. Our good friend, Charlie Sinden, is the executive chef there and our other buddy, Nate Gravina, is the other chef there. We talked to them on Friday about putting together the show and they said yes. You are all invited to drink beer with us, eat killer food, and see Micah melt your face off with a solo performance. Here is all the info:

We mentioned last week that we will be throwing a SXSW party with our friends at Front Porch Musings on Saturday, March 20th, 2010. The show is FREE, I am pretty sure it is 21+, and the venue is called Friends (208 East 6th Street, Austin, TX). We just found out that Lagunitas Brewery (amazing brewery) will be sponoring the party by donating some beer. Get their early for free beer, stay all day for all the great music. It’s exciting to see so many of our bands touring. Austin Lucas has a handful of Southern dates booked for a tour that will have him playing the Harvest of Hope festival. Shortly after these shows, Austin will be playing a number of dates in Austin, Texas, for this year’s South by Southwest Festival. If you see a date near you, I could not recommend more hilghly that you need to go. Have you ever seen Austin play before? Oh man!

We are putting the finishing touches on “Collection” which is (you guessed it) a collection of tracks from Austin’s past releases which will include tracks from the “At War With Freak Folk” 10″, his tracks from his split 7″s with Chuck Ragan, Frank Turner, and The Takers, and one track that has never been released. Stay tuned.

NINEBULLETS.NET FEBRUARY PODCAST: SxSW EDITION

I am currently listening to Nine Bullet’s latest podcast, one that was inspired by the bands they hope to see at this year’s SXSW. It sounding pretty damn good. Along with Suburban Home acts, Micah Schnabel and Austin Lucas, there are excellent tracks by Drive By Truckers, Lucero, Joe Pug, Glossary, American Aquarium, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, and lots more. I know for a fact that I will be doing a lot of hanging with the Nine Bullets crew, I am bummed though that I will be missing their SXSW party on Wednesday night as I get in really late that night. You can download the podcast here. I personally subscribe to their podcast feed so that whenever a new one is posted, it downloads into my Itunes.

F*ck You, It’s Friday! – Playlist 31

While listening to the Nine Bullets podcast, I downloaded the latest “Fuck You It’s Friday” playlist from Front Porch Musings. As you might have read, we were invited to help host a SXSW party with the good folks at Front Porch Musings, and this week’s FYIF playlist features tracks from our upcoming party. Consider it a preview of what you can expect at our party with tracks by Two Cow Garage, Look Mexico, Austin Lucas, The Only Sons, State Champion, Glossary, and American Aquarium. It should be a great listen. One complaint Front Porch Musings: Where’s the Micah Schnabel track? and I’m not sure how to best remedy this, but when I download the playlists in Itunes, it is hard to track and group all the songs on the playlist since it keeps all the info associated from the track in your Itunes. Maybe consider changing the album name or grouping with the name Front Porch Musings, that way, we can easily have the songs in one place. I guess that was 2 complaints (my bad). I am considering making a mixtape with tracks from our upcoming SXSW party and other SXSW artists that we are excited to see and handing them out at our party. Whether or not you are going to SXSW, I highly recommend you listen to these podcasts/playlists.

Tim Barry was the subject of two features that I highly recommend everyone spend the time to read. “Ride Fast, Live Slow” in Style Weekly (a weekly from Richmond, VA) is probably the best feature I have ever read about any of our artists. The writer spent so much time researching all there is to know about Tim Barry and the piece serves as a brief written history of Tim Barry and Avail. If you have ever wanted to learn more about Tim, look no further than this feature.

The other recommended read comes courtesy of ThePunkSite.com who interviewed Tim shortly after an incident at a show that left Tim Barry with a broken hand. Tim is quoted as saying

“I was standing on stage and I was saying that I wrote this song (“Wait at Milano”) with my buddy Travis in mind because he is chronically depressed and I wrote it for him before he passed away and never told him it was about him. And I was quickly explaining that this song is about now and living lightly and more kindly in ways that perpetuate good so that there are things left for the people coming after us and as I’m trying to explain this the fucking guy just keeps heckling me brutally, so I invite him onstage. I said no one can hear you so I gave him a microphone. So I said now that you have had your say I’m going to explain to you again what this song is about. So I repeated my words “My best friend Travis killed himself” and he replied “well he doesn’t sound like much of a friend” and I just beat the living shit out of him on stage. And I am not at all proud of that because I tried deeply not to be the person I used to be because I used to fight a lot. It’s not healthy. I just snapped you know. I still don’t know what he meant. But he certainly couldn’t envision what was going through my head when he said that.”

If for some reason, you are not familiar with Tim Barry and his releases on Suburban Home, I can only hope that these features spark your interest. I’m sure most of you reading this post are well familiar with Tim, but even if you are, you should read these pieces. SUBURBAN HOMES RECORDS TEAMS WITH SAN FRANCISCO BLOG AND SALOON TO PROVIDE SXSW SHOWCASE

Suburban Homes Records is pleased to announce that it has joined forces with relatively new San Francisco based blog Front Porch Musings (www.frontporchmusings.com) and relatively old Grant & Green Saloon, also located in San Francisco. The three will be sponsoring a South By Southwest showcase fittingly named “Suburban Home Records & Friends” on Saturday March 20th from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM at Friends bar located at 208 E 6th Street in downtown Austin. The line-up will include Suburban Home artists Two Cow Garage from Ohio, Austin Lucas from Indiana, and Austin transplants (by way of Tallahassee) Look Mexico. Our friends will include The Only Sons from the southern-rock hotbed of Murfreesboro, TN; Kentucky’s favorite State Champion; American Aquarium out of Raleigh, NC; and another Murfreesboro staple, Glossary.

The show will be kicked off at 10:30 AM with Two Cow Garage’s Micah Schnabel featuring songs from his solo debut “When The Stage Lights Go Dim.” Following Schnabel will be The Only Sons who have seen a great amount of success from 2009’s “Steel Hearts,” and are also gaining steam for their upcoming release “American Stranger.” Label-mates State Champion will take the stage from there promoting 2010’s much anticipated album “Stale Champagne” which will be a fitting way to close out the morning as the Mimosa buzz wears off and the beer starts to flow like water. The afternoon will get started by Austin’s own Look Mexico, blasting tracks from their forthcoming album “To Bed to Battle” (being released 3/23/10). Suburban Home troubador Austin Lucas will take the stage from there, touring with a full backing band for the first time ever. On the heels of their sixth full-length release “Feral Fire” veteran rockers Glossary will come next, and their performance will surely be as highly anticipated as their new album. Joey Cape just posted an mp3 from his upcoming split album with Jon Snodgrass. The track, “To All My Friends” features Joey and Jon singing the song together. The 10 song album features Joey and Jon performing Lagwagon and Armchair Martian and one incredible original by Jon that is sure to be a hit, “Spiderman, Wolfman”. Here is what Joey says of the split:

Having played many shows together, Joey & Jon recorded the Liverbirds split album to capture the atmosphere of them performing live on each other’s songs. Currently they are touring Europe and the UK with Tony Sly. For now the album is only available at those shows, but starting April 1st you can buy it directly from this web store. Joey is releasing the album on CD and digitally on his own label. We have worked it out with Joey to license the album for release on vinyl through Suburban Home/Vinyl Collective. The CDs are done now but we won’t have vinyl done til April/May. Pick up the album though, it is so good. I cannot stop listening to it.
