That’s right, Suburban Home turns 14 in September. As we have in recent years, we plan to throw a weekend of festivities that will be sure to leave your ears happy and your liver sad. Unlike some Anniversaries, this is not just another year. Our entire history at Suburban Home has seen its share of ups and downs. We have suffered through declining CD sales, experienced renewed interest in vinyl, and feel throughout all of this that we have been putting out the best records we have ever released. As other labels have been shutting their doors, we continue to eek by. This anniversary finds us celebrating much like I imagine an terminal patient might celebrate another birthday. Who knows how many years we have left? It’s not worth worrying about, instead we are excited to celebrate another beautiful year.
Mark the following dates on your calendar:
Thursday, September 10th – Suburban Home Anniversary warm-up show (either in Ft Collins or Colorado Springs)
Friday, September 11th – Suburban Home 14th Anniversary show #1 at 3 Kings Tavern
Saturday, September 12th – Daytime- Garage Sale/Flea Market, Nighttime- Suburban Home 14th Anniversary show #2 at 3 Kings Tavern
Sunday, September 13th – Suburban Home 14th Anniversary BBQ and Washers Tournament at Wash Park
So far, the following Suburban Home artists have committed to performing: Joey Cape, Jon Snodgrass, Chad Price, maybe Drag the River, Austin Lucas, Two Cow Garage, Mike Hale, Jr. Juggernaut, The Takers, and the Revenge.
We are still awaiting final confirmations from: Look Mexico, Tim Barry, Josh Small, In the Red, Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, and Ninja Gun. And we are working on a few surprise performers that are a part of the extended Suburban Home family. Stay tuned, it should be one hell of a party.
I am working on a deal at the Towne Place Suites Hotel on 6th and Broadway for people coming in from out of town. I am also working on a few brewery tours, and other fun things to do for people that are new to our fine city. Just mark the dates on your calendar and start pricing out flights!
I wanted to share 2 streams with you today from 2 very incredible bands. The first is Fake Problems “It’s Great to Be Alive”, the 2nd is Ninja Gun “Restless Rubes”. I am putting them together because Fake Problems is taking Ninja Gun out on Tour. We are so excited about this tour (dates below). Rumor has it that both bands will be doing a split 7″ for the tour on Sabot. Ninja Gun recorded a new song that could be one of my favorite NG songs yet.
Check out both streaming players and if you like what you hear, please share the music by embedding the html code into your myspace or blog. Please retweet this post, too. Thanks.
We love Fake Problems, we have for some time now. They were involved with our first ever Under the Influence 7″ w/ Look Mexico. They are great people, and if you have never seen them live, they will rock your socks off. I feel like they are writing better and better music and I think their latest album is by far their best material. Take a listen.
Yes, we are biased, but we think these South Georgian 4 piece are one of the rising stars in music. They write incredible songs that span a number of influences to Classic rock to Punk Rock to Americana. They turn their amps to 11 when they get on stage, and they are some of the nicest folks you will ever meet. Coody, their singer, is one of my favorite people and I just hope that people take a chance and check out their album. Yes, their band name isn’t the greatest, but they write honest music pack full of pop sensibilities. Stoked about this tour and about the dates they have in September with Gaslight Anthem, things are slowly moving in a good direction.

This Friday, June 19th, Stereotyperider are playing their final show EVER in Denver. When the band originally announced their final show ever, I pushed them hard to play a final Denver date and luckily, they agreed. The show will be epic as not only are Stereotyperider playing, but 3 great locals will round out the bill (Only Thunder, Taun Taun, and Mustangs and Madras). The show will be bittersweet, but at least we will have the opportunity to see an incredible band play one more show. If you are anywhere near Denver, I urge you to see this show.
When: Friday, June 19th
Where: Larimer Lounge
Who: Stereotyperider’s last Denver show w/ Taun Taun, Only Thunder, and Mustangs and Madras
What: A nice sendoff for one of Phoenix’s finest rock bands
I feel as though Stereotyperider released their most incredible album of their career with “Songs in the Keys of F and U”. As I was riding my bike home yesterday rocking the album, it made me think about all of the great bands out there who just never got their due. I like to say that Stereotyperider should have been received in a much bigger way, but the same could be said of so many other bands. My personal connection to the band and their music obviously makes me biased. I also wonder if our heavy involvement with alt-country/roots music may have hurt the possibility for this record to get heard. THIS IS A ROCK RECORD through and through; listen to the stream below and share it if you dig it. I think that if No Idea or Second Nature had released this record, the band could have connected with more fans. Take a listen and let us know what you think:
By the way, here is what Rock Sound said of the album in a recent review, “That they managed to produce a rather fine album full of energy and vigour speaks volumes about their love for hard grafters such as Jawbreaker and Alkaline Trio, their sound taking its cues from the earlier period of both band’s careers. Fans of driving guitar lines, fuzzy bass and strained, off-kilter vocal cries will not be diappointed in the slightest. FOR FANS OF : Jawbreaker, Hot Water Music, Alkaline Trio, Small Brown Bike” (Rocksound issue #123, 8/10)

Mike Hale is in Europe on tour with Austin Lucas and Josh Small. From the few emails I have received, he is having an amazing time. Punknews just published a post about his thoughts so far of Europe. Can’t wait to have you back in the states Mike. Read his latest column on Punknews:

While Austin Lucas dazzles audiences all over Europe, a July/August/September tour is being booked right now. Of those dates, Austin Lucas has just been confirmed for the Philadelphia Folk Festival.

Philadelphia Folk Festival
Old Pool Farm / Route 63
Schwenksville, PA
Other artists also playing this Festival include Iron and Wine, Marissa Nadler, Langhorne Slim, Heartless Bastards, and Justin Townes Earle.

Today, we received the fantastic news that Ninja Gun will be supporting Side One Dummy recording artist, Fake Problems, on their upcoming July/August tour. This leg of the tour starts in St. Louis, Missouri on July 16th, goes West and then South, and ends in Orlando, Florida, on August 6th. This is a huge opportunity for Ninja Gun and honestly, we could not be more excited. Our only regret about this tour is that the Denver date finds most of us from Suburban Home celebrating our good friend Joe’s wedding in the mountains and won’t be able to attend the show at the Larimer Lounge (we are hoping a 2nd Colorado show will be added on July 19th).
You might notice that we have also posted our embeddable streaming player for Ninja Gun’s Restless Rubes. If you have not listened to this album, we urge you to give it a spin. “Restless Rubes” is one of the best Americana influenced Rock albums ever recorded (at least, that is how we feel). If you like what you hear or already a fan, please help us spread the word about this tour and Ninja Gun’s album by embedding this player on your Myspace page, blog, or wherever you can post html code. Please retweet this news and/or email this to someone you think might care. We appreciate your help in sharing this amazing news.
We currently have “Restless Rubes” available on CD for only $5.00 and we have it available on vinyl. This link will take you to pretty much everything Ninja Gun in our store.
