It’s a nice, short feature with some good questions; there are a few painful typos when it comes to misspellings of certain artists’ names, but what can you do.

Find out of Mike is into the Beatles or Stones (and find out what he thinks of the Who while on that topic), his musical guilty pleasures, biggest vice, and more.

By the way, does anyone have any recent photos of Mike Hale that we might be able to use for press purposes? If you do, please email us. We will gladly give you photo credits when re-using them.

I’m excited to see Mike in Austin and can’t wait to hang out with him.

If you get the newest issue of Amp Magazine (with Alkaline Trio) on the cover, please check out the interview they did with Tim Barry. Tim discusses the new album, picking up an acoustic guitar to play songs, Prosser’s Gabriel, and more. It’s on page 43 of the new issue. You can also find an interview with Chad Price (page 36), and Joey Cape just started writing a column for Amp (page 20). Pick up the magazine whereever magazines are sold.

Brett from Amp Magazine asked me if I wanted to put together an interview with Tim Barry. I put together some questions and got some help with our own Andy Thomas. The interview has also been posted in the online version of Amp Magazine. Here is a direct link. Have you seen the online version of Amp Magazine? It is really cool. Thanks Brett/Amp for not only featuring our artists in Amp Magazine but for reaching out to have us involved.

With SXSW less than one month away, I think everyone is getting really excited, making their schedules, and a few close friends have even posted Podcasts/Playlists.

NINEBULLETS.NET FEBRUARY PODCAST: SxSW EDITION

I am currently listening to Nine Bullet’s latest podcast, one that was inspired by the bands they hope to see at this year’s SXSW. It sounding pretty damn good. Along with Suburban Home acts, Micah Schnabel and Austin Lucas, there are excellent tracks by Drive By Truckers, Lucero, Joe Pug, Glossary, American Aquarium, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, and lots more. I know for a fact that I will be doing a lot of hanging with the Nine Bullets crew, I am bummed though that I will be missing their SXSW party on Wednesday night as I get in really late that night. You can download the podcast here. I personally subscribe to their podcast feed so that whenever a new one is posted, it downloads into my Itunes.

F*ck You, It’s Friday! – Playlist 31

While listening to the Nine Bullets podcast, I downloaded the latest “Fuck You It’s Friday” playlist from Front Porch Musings. As you might have read, we were invited to help host a SXSW party with the good folks at Front Porch Musings, and this week’s FYIF playlist features tracks from our upcoming party. Consider it a preview of what you can expect at our party with tracks by Two Cow Garage, Look Mexico, Austin Lucas, The Only Sons, State Champion, Glossary, and American Aquarium. It should be a great listen. One complaint Front Porch Musings: Where’s the Micah Schnabel track? and I’m not sure how to best remedy this, but when I download the playlists in Itunes, it is hard to track and group all the songs on the playlist since it keeps all the info associated from the track in your Itunes. Maybe consider changing the album name or grouping with the name Front Porch Musings, that way, we can easily have the songs in one place. I guess that was 2 complaints (my bad). You can download the playlist here.

I am considering making a mixtape with tracks from our upcoming SXSW party and other SXSW artists that we are excited to see and handing them out at our party. Whether or not you are going to SXSW, I highly recommend you listen to these podcasts/playlists.

Tim Barry was the subject of two features that I highly recommend everyone spend the time to read. “Ride Fast, Live Slow” in Style Weekly (a weekly from Richmond, VA) is probably the best feature I have ever read about any of our artists.
Tim Barry was the subject of two features that I highly recommend everyone spend the time to read. “Ride Fast, Live Slow” in Style Weekly (a weekly from Richmond, VA) is probably the best feature I have ever read about any of our artists. The writer spent so much time researching all there is to know about Tim Barry and the piece serves as a brief written history of Tim Barry and Avail. If you have ever wanted to learn more about Tim, look no further than this feature.

The other recommended read comes courtesy of ThePunkSite.com who interviewed Tim shortly after an incident at a show that left Tim Barry with a broken hand. Tim is quoted as saying

“I was standing on stage and I was saying that I wrote this song (“Wait at Milano”) with my buddy Travis in mind because he is chronically depressed and I wrote it for him before he passed away and never told him it was about him. And I was quickly explaining that this song is about now and living lightly and more kindly in ways that perpetuate good so that there are things left for the people coming after us and as I’m trying to explain this the fucking guy just keeps heckling me brutally, so I invite him onstage. I said no one can hear you so I gave him a microphone. So I said now that you have had your say I’m going to explain to you again what this song is about. So I repeated my words “My best friend Travis killed himself” and he replied “well he doesn’t sound like much of a friend” and I just beat the living shit out of him on stage. And I am not at all proud of that because I tried deeply not to be the person I used to be because I used to fight a lot. It’s not healthy. I just snapped you know. I still don’t know what he meant. But he certainly couldn’t envision what was going through my head when he said that.”

If for some reason, you are not familiar with Tim Barry and his releases on Suburban Home, I can only hope that these features spark your interest. I’m sure most of you reading this post are well familiar with Tim, but even if you are, you should read these pieces. Tim recently finished a string of dates with Against Me and Ninja Gun and will soon be touring nearly all of the United States. Tour dates are below.

Our good buddy, Ronen Kauffman, sat down with Suburban Home’s Joey Cape and Jon Snodgrass when the two were on tour late last year. It’s a great interview that foreshadows Joey’s decision to release his new album in a different way than he originally planned. There is also the first stab at the soon to be hit by Jon Snodgrass, “Spiderman, Wolfman”. The full song has been recorded for a split LP by Jon Snodrass and Joey Cape which will be released on CD on Joey’s own label and on vinyl through us. Thanks Ronen for sitting down with Joey and Jon. Everyone, please check this out. Issue Oriented is the best podcast out there and this episode will show you why.

From Issue Oriented:
Host Ronen Kauffman welcomes JOEY CAPE (Lagwagon, Bad Astronaut) and JON SNODGRASS (Drag The River) for a chat about sadness, money, regionalism and much more. Joey and Jon also
perform two songs live in the Issue Oriented studio!

Then Ronen talks to FREDDY CRICIEN (Madball, Hazen Street) to talk about politics, religion, and the release of his new hip hop album Catholic Guilt.

Aversion.com recently interviewed Tim Barry in a feature entitled, “Fortress of Solitude”. It’s a great piece that I highly recommend you read. Here’s a couple of excerpts from the article:

Barry isn’t some sort of Unabomber creep brandishing an acoustic guitar just because he’s fond of his personal time. To survive as a touring musician for the past two decades, he could hardly be an antisocial weirdo. – Matt Schild

“I’m going to be completely honest. I don’t know how many good years I have left,” he admits. “The lifestyle on the road is pretty intense. If you were completely sober and did it, it would batter you and beat you and tear you up after 20 years. I drank and I smoked cigarettes and I smoked weed. I’ll often opt to stay up with great people than sleep for a full eight hours. It tears at you. It’s not something I’m ashamed of. It’s just the way I’ve always lived and I love it. No pity, no bullshit. It’s a lifestyle choice.” – Tim Barry

It’s a great read so if you have the time, please follow this link:
