The Onion’s AV Club just posted an interview with the vocalist of the Gamits, Chris Fogal. It is a nice, short interview conducted by the Onion’s Matt Schild, someone who was around when the Gamits were active. I highly recommend taking a moment to read the interview. Chris and Matt discuss the reunion, trying to make it as a band, the upcoming album, thoughts on “Antidote”, and more. If you live near or around Denver, make sure you come out for their reunion show tomorrow at the Bluebird Theater (and pre-party at Lost Lake). One thing I wanted to add was that the Gamits final show in Denver was December 18th, 2004. Man, that was a long time ago.

Last week, Austin Lucas came through Denver on his tour with Cory Branan. The show was one of those really incredible shows that reminds you of why you stay out so late on a school night and end up drinking a few too many beers. Cory Branan who played right before Austin was fantastic as always (even though he was super dead from pulling an all nighter the night before in Vegas). While I always love seeing Cory, I have to say that Austin Lucas was absolutely on point and the night was all his.

The photo you see above is one of many that Tiffiny Kallina from The Ruckus took. She also did a show review to accompany the photos and will soon be publishing an interview with Austin Lucas. You can see the show review and photos here.

Our friends at Punknews have started to do a podcast. While I haven’t yet listened to it (will do so shortly), the podcast features music by Austin Lucas, My Heart to Joy, Comadre, Coliseum, along with commentary by Bryne Yancy, Adam White, and Richard Verducci (Punknews writers). Stream or Download their podcast here.

Those of you waiting for the vinyl release of “Collection”, your wait will soon be over. I am planning to have the vinyl done in time for Suburban Home Records’s 15th Anniversary. Expect a special exclusive color available only to people who attend our 15th Anniversary. News will be posted soon.

And if you haven’t yet downloaded our latest mix tape, Suburban Home Records Mix Tape #5, you have to download it for the Austin Lucas demo of “Sleep Well”, a song that Austin has been playing out on the road and a song that absolutely owns. Download the mix at this link.

If you follow our newsletter, you probably read that Austin Lucas ended his set in Denver by doing an A cappella version of Boyz II Men’s It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye. It was amazing. Don’t be surprised if some time from now, I convince Austin Lucas to put out an ep of covers of old hip hop and R&b tunes.

I just noticed this mentioned on our message board, but for the first time in Suburban Home’s history, one of our artists is the Featured Band of the Week on Insound. The feature explains that “To Bed to Battle” deserves a lot more recognition than it has received (we could not agree more), and that they bridge the gap between 90′s Midwestern emo like Get Up Kids and Braid but put their own spin on it (we agree!). Read the write up on Insound here. Thanks Meghan.

Like I mentioned just one post earlier, you really need to listen to this album. Do so for free and honestly, it could not be any easier. Just click this link. Then drag the Look Mexico record cover into our player.

Look Mexico continue to stay busy supporting their latest (and greatest), “To Bed to Battle”. They recently announced tour dates with Doghouse Recording artist, Weatherbox. I am excited to see that the tour is coming to Denver (tour dates below, please mark them on your calendar). I am not too familiar with Weatherbox, anything I should start with when giving them a listen? The guys were recently interviewed by Red River Noise, an Austin, Texas, online music magazine. Not only is the interview a great discussion about the band’s decision to move to Austin and thoughts behind the songs on the new album, Red River Noise also did some investigative reporting by publishing the full quotes that Look Mexico’s song titles come from. Not sure if you have heard, but Look Mexico draws inspiration from Vin Diesel movie quotes to help name their song titles. Check out the interview and Vin Diesel quotes here.

Look Mexico’s new album has been getting fantastic reviews everywhere. Pastepunk.com said, “To Bed To Battle makes me think of what might happen if music by ARCADE FIRE was run through the mental grinder of kids who grew up clutching a handful of BRAID and GET UP KIDS records. It’s as good as it sounds.” Read the review here. Our friends at Rocket Fuel Podcast recently reviewed “To Bed to Battle” in addition to playing, “Take It Upstairs, Einstein” on issue #36 of their podcast. Download/listen to the podcast here. On the same episode, you will find an interview with a band I love, Glossary. As always, Rocket Fuel is highly recommended.

I put off reading this interview until today and as I suspected, the interview is ridiculously funny. For those of you who know, Suburban Home’s Ninja Gun and Side One’s Side One Dummy are buds. They did a split 7″ together, they did a tour that got cut short together, and as you can read from this interview, they are good at giving each other a few jabs. I highly suggest you read the interview. And while you are at it, you should seriously consider picking up anything and everything by both bands.

Ninja Gun are currently on tour in Europe (yes that Europe) still supporting their incredible Suburban Home debut, Restless Rubes.

Fake Problems are working on a new album and if I heard correctly are going out on this year’s Warped Tour.

Spend 5 minutes and read this interview, they discuss things like From First to Last, who would win in a fight between Jordan from Sabot and myself, Burmese Pythons, choice of underwear, and everything but each other’s music.

If you get the newest issue of Amp Magazine (with Alkaline Trio) on the cover, please check out the interview they did with Tim Barry. Tim discusses the new album, picking up an acoustic guitar to play songs, Prosser’s Gabriel, and more. It’s on page 43 of the new issue. You can also find an interview with Chad Price (page 36), and Joey Cape just started writing a column for Amp (page 20). Pick up the magazine whereever magazines are sold.

Brett from Amp Magazine asked me if I wanted to put together an interview with Tim Barry. I put together some questions and got some help with our own Andy Thomas. The interview has also been posted in the online version of Amp Magazine. Here is a direct link. Have you seen the online version of Amp Magazine? It is really cool. Thanks Brett/Amp for not only featuring our artists in Amp Magazine but for reaching out to have us involved.
