I Am A Craft Brewer from I Am A Craft Brewer on Vimeo.
This video gave me goosebumps. It might be due to the fact that I saw this video after drinking 2 Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stouts (13% alcohol) and the fact that my passion for craft breweries runs a close 2nd to my love of independent music. I love the community that surrounds craft breweries and I can’t help but compare it to that of independent music. Much like the small brewer, small, indie labels are slowly closing the gap on the mega conglomerates that force feed whatever they think they can sell. Indie labels put out music they are passionate about. That love and attention isn’t lost on music fans. Here are a few quotes from the video that I want to share:
“(mega conglomerates) are only focused on how much they’re selling instead of what they’re selling”
“If you want lowest common denominator beer, that is up to you, I won’t have any part of it.”
“We must educate those who seek to understand”
“We must honor and hold true to our integrity”
I can go on and on, but if this video doesn’t inspire you, you shouldn’t be following this site. I found myself getting emotional watching this video and thinking about how we as independent music labels need to band together, reinforce our strengths, and spread our message to those who are receptive. Independent music inspired me to take the path I have taken. Corporate music just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I know that times are tough attempting to sell a product most people get for free, but I sincerely believe in what we as independent record labels are attempting to do. I don’t believe in a higher power, but there are times that I feel as though I was brought into this crazy world to spread the idea that independent music is relevant and powerful. I will never stop spreading my love of independent music doing all I can do to spread the word of my artists and like minded labels around the world. Who’s with me? Let’s grab a craft beer and cheers each other for our love of independent music!
“I Am A Craft Brewer” is a collaborative video representing the camaraderie, character and integrity of the American Craft Brewing movement. Created by Greg Koch, CEO of the Stone Brewing Co. and Chris & Jared of Redtail Media…and more than 35 amazing craft brewers from all over the country. The video was shown to a packed audience of 1700 craft brewers and industry members at the 2009 Craft Brewers Conference as an introduction to Greg’s Keynote Speech entitled “Be Remarkable: Collaboration Ethics Camaraderie Passion.”
Today, we received the fantastic news that Ninja Gun will be supporting Side One Dummy recording artist, Fake Problems, on their upcoming July/August tour. This leg of the tour starts in St. Louis, Missouri on July 16th, goes West and then South, and ends in Orlando, Florida, on August 6th. This is a huge opportunity for Ninja Gun and honestly, we could not be more excited. Our only regret about this tour is that the Denver date finds most of us from Suburban Home celebrating our good friend Joe’s wedding in the mountains and won’t be able to attend the show at the Larimer Lounge (we are hoping a 2nd Colorado show will be added on July 19th).
You might notice that we have also posted our embeddable streaming player for Ninja Gun’s Restless Rubes. If you have not listened to this album, we urge you to give it a spin. “Restless Rubes” is one of the best Americana influenced Rock albums ever recorded (at least, that is how we feel). If you like what you hear or already a fan, please help us spread the word about this tour and Ninja Gun’s album by embedding this player on your Myspace page, blog, or wherever you can post html code. Please retweet this news and/or email this to someone you think might care. We appreciate your help in sharing this amazing news.
We currently have “Restless Rubes” available on CD for only $5.00 and we have it available on vinyl. This link will take you to pretty much everything Ninja Gun in our store.

On most afternoons, some segment of our office walks to our neighborhood coffee shop, Studio 6 (on 9th and Santa Fe), to get our afternoon caffeine fix. They make great coffee at affordable prices and everyone there is nice. Little did we know that Mike, our barista, is also a coffee artist. He is one of those folks who can draw portraits in your latte. We went in yesterday to get our afternoon coffee and there was a film crew there filming him do what he does. Little did we know that we would end up on Channel 9 news in the segment. Brandon called me to tell me we were on there and this morning I caught it for myself. 9news.com also has the video streaming so I have it embedded here for your viewing pleasure. You can see Andy and Caroline at the very beginning, then at the end you see Caroline and myself walking out. My Lagrecia shirt got some good face time.
Good evening to you All.

For the next 2 weeks, we will be selling the entire Suburban Home Catalog on CD for $5.00 each. Our CDs are pretty inexpensive to begin with (in most cases $8.99) and this is pretty much the deal you get when you purchase our 5 for $25 or 10 for $50 sales, but we figured that with the economy being where its at, some of you might be interested in just purchasing a couple of cds at this low price.
If you already own most of our catalog, use it to improve your friend’s crappy music collection. Tell them that you know you understand that for their money, they don’t know if it gets any better than when Michael Bolton sings “When a Man Loves a Woman”, but that there is more to music than that no talent assclown and then give them a few of our releases. Your friends’ lives will improve and they will have only you to thank for the dramatic improvement.
For 2 weeks, you can get pretty much our entire, available CD catalog for only $5.00 each. Stock up.

Our friend David who is responsible for the Pink Couch Sessions just sent me over a link for the session Coody of Ninja Gun did. This was recorded when Ninja Gun recently toured through New York with Mike Hale. The night before, Coody and company met none other than the legend, Willie Nelson. Coody actually dedicates his session to the Country great. For the session, Coody records an acoustic version of “Front Yard Screamers (Kitchen Kissers). Damn, I love that song. Thanks David, thanks Pink Couch Sessions.
The Jon Snodgrass/Cory Branan show was one of the funnest I have been to in a while. You can tell the guys had a fucking blast and by the end of the night, everyone was drunk including the 2 men on stage and yours truly. Here are 4 (of the 12) videos I took that night. If you are only going to watch one though, please please PLEASE PLEASE watch the first video posted. The video is of Cory performing “Walk Around” which will be on the split we are putting out with Jon. This performance is amazing because Jon takes a stab at a really difficult part of the song and hilarity ensues. Go see these guys when they come to your town. You will be stoked you did.
Other videos include a Thin Lizzy cover, classics by Jon and Cory, and what I think might be a new Cory tune.
