We figured that since Two Cow Garage are in town this week and have short driving times in between shows, we should take advantage of the situation by having Micah Schnabel perform songs from his solo album, “When the Stage Light Goes Dim”. Tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 9th, we put together a FREE pre-show show with Micah Schnabel at one of our favorite restaurants, The Lobby. Our good friend, Charlie Sinden, is the executive chef there and our other buddy, Nate Gravina, is the other chef there. We talked to them on Friday about putting together the show and they said yes. You are all invited to drink beer with us, eat killer food, and see Micah melt your face off with a solo performance. Here is all the info:

What: Micah Schnabel solo performance before Two Cow Garage’s show at the Larimer Lounge
When: Tuesday, March 9th, at 6pm (Micah more likely to play around 6:30)
Where: The Lobby, 2191 Arapahoe Street, Denver, CO, 303-997-9911 (right across the street from Great Divide Brewery)
How much: FREE
Anything else? : The Lobby has a pretty kick ass Happy Hour from 3 to 7pm. Eat some tots and sliders, have a few beers, come and hang out.

Micah is also playing an instore on Wednesday, March 10th at Independent Records in Colorado Springs. If you live in Colorado and find yourself a fan of Two Cow Garage and/or Micah Schnabel, you should come to at least one of these shows:

3/8/2010 Ft Collins, CO @ Road 34 w/ Tumbledown, Andrew Anderson
3/9/2010 Denver, CO @ The Lobby Micah Schnabel pre-party (6pm)
3/9/2010 Denver, CO @ Larimer Lounge w/ Tumbledown, Andrew Anderson
3/10/2010 Colorado Springs @ Independent Records in store (Micah Schnabel w/ Mike Herrera) at 5pm
3/10/2010 Colorado Springs @ Triple Nickel CO w/ Tumbledown, Andrew Anderson

I will see you at the Lobby and at the Larimer Lounge.

Quite a few of our bands are touring around the States and Europe in March. Please take a look down the list and see if any of our acts are coming to a town near you. Some of the tours have Fridge Fliers that you can download, print out, and put on your fridge at home and work. Or print out and take to your local record store.

It’s exciting to see so many of our bands touring. If you live in Denver, make sure you note that Two Cow Garage is playing on Tuesday night and if it all works out, Micah will be doing a solo set around town before the show. Chad Price will be playing Denver 3 nights in a row so please make sure you go out to one of them. I am planning on seeing Two Cow and Micah and Tuesday night and Chad Price with Pete from Truckstop Coffee on Thursday night. I hope to see you out.

If you get the newest issue of Amp Magazine (with Alkaline Trio) on the cover, please check out the interview they did with Tim Barry. Tim discusses the new album, picking up an acoustic guitar to play songs, Prosser’s Gabriel, and more. It’s on page 43 of the new issue. You can also find an interview with Chad Price (page 36), and Joey Cape just started writing a column for Amp (page 20). Pick up the magazine whereever magazines are sold.

Brett from Amp Magazine asked me if I wanted to put together an interview with Tim Barry. I put together some questions and got some help with our own Andy Thomas. The interview has also been posted in the online version of Amp Magazine. Here is a direct link. Have you seen the online version of Amp Magazine? It is really cool. Thanks Brett/Amp for not only featuring our artists in Amp Magazine but for reaching out to have us involved.

Today, we bring you the pre-order for Look Mexico’s upcoming album and debut for Suburban Home, “To Bed to Battle”. Many of you have witnessed Look Mexico’s journey throughout the past few years and are excited about this new album. For some of you, this might be the first you have ever heard of Look Mexico. Whichever side of the fence you are on, I really hope that you will spend a little time with a band we still can’t believe we are working with. Look Mexico were one of the first bands (along with Fake Problems) to contribute to our Under the Influence 7″ series. Their track, a cover of Looking Glass’ “Brandy, You’re a Fine Girl” was a spot on cover that really showed the band’s musical chops. Shortly after, they released the “Gasp Asp” 7″ for Tine Engine and those tracks just blew me away. I had always been a fan, but those 2 releases gave me a glimpse into what the band might be capable of on their next album. Luckily, we found out that their next recording effort would be their greatest material to date finding the banding growing and maturing to forge their own distinct style. “To Bed to Battle” is a masterpiece and I can’t wait for all to hear the album Look Mexico have been working so hard to put out.

The album will be pressed on LP, CD, available digitally, and available as a deluxe set with LP, CD, Poster, Pint Glass, T-shirt, Coozie, and Button. The vinyl will be pressed in an edition of 1,000 copies (500 on Salmon/Orange vinyl, 500 on black vinyl). After the first pressing sells out, we will press all future pressings on black vinyl.

To Bed To Battle was written and recorded this past summer in Look
Mexico’s former hometown of Tallahassee, FL. With the converted
basement of a local pizza shop dedicated as their studio space, the
band was able to take their time throughout the recording process,
experimenting with and expanding their sound, and adding new
instrumentation such as electric piano, organ, pedal steel, violin, cello,
and horns. The resulting album – which deals with struggle and
pressing on in the face of adversity – is an incredibly catchy, diverse
yet cohesive set of 10 songs. To Bed To Battle ranges musically from
anthemic pop/rock and explosive ballads (“You Stay. I Go. No
Following,” “Until The Lights Burn Out?”), to alternately edgy and
dreamy math-rock (“No Wonder I’m Still Awake,” “Time For You To
Go Do Your Own Thing”), to blistering, barreling modern rock (“I Live
My Life A Quarter Mile At A Time,” “They Offered Me A Deal (I Said
No, Naturally”), to even acoustic, chamber pop-laced Americana
(“Take It Upstairs, Einstein”).

CDs will ship a week before the March 23rd Street Date. Vinyl will ship closer to the end of March/early April. Pre-order this album and you will be entered to win a test pressing. Good luck.

SUBURBAN HOME RECORDS Mix Tape Volume 3 “A Quarter Closer to the End” CD (5 Copies for FREE)

For our 3rd volume of the Suburban Home Records’ Mix Tape, we decided to change up the way that we put together our first 2 mix tapes. This time around, we asked Look Mexico to pick a mix tape of songs that would give people a pretty good idea of what they listen to. The guys (all 5 of them) picked 3 songs each and Matt sequenced the songs so they would flow just right (he has proclaimed himself as a bit of a Mix Tape master). The 15 track mix tape is preceded by 5 Suburban Home tracks (2 Look Mexico tracks start out the mix tape, then a track from the upcoming Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground album, “Introducing”, then the opening track from Lizzie Huffman’s debut 10″, and the final Suburban Home track is the lead track from “Songs in the Keys of F and U”, Stereotyperider’s final album, only because we think that all Look Mexico fans should hear their music). The 20 track mix tape clocks in at over 78 minutes.

I have opted not to post the mix tape’s track listing but know that if you are a fan of Look Mexico, you will find bands that you love and am sure you will discover at least a few surprises along the way. I have been listening to the mix tape for weeks.

The mix tape cover/jacket features a photo of Look Mexico digitized by our own Brandon Proff. The liner notes contain an interview with Look Mexico where they answer questions about their new album, “To Bed to Battle”, the music industry, their recent move to Austin, Texas, and why they do what they do.

As with other mix tapes, this mix tape is extremely limited. When you order 1, you will actually receive 5 mix tapes with the hope that you keep 1 and give 4 to friends. We believe that music is meant to be shared. If you hear an artist that you like, please consider finding their releases and see if they are touring through a town near you. The mix tapes are FREE, but we ask that you please cover shipping costs.

We recommend waiting around for the Look Mexico pre-order which will be posted at 2pm MST.

Album leaks are a part of the music industry landscape in 2010 and so it came as little surprise that Look Mexico’s new album, “To Bed To Battle” had leaked. We had sent out advance copies to music editors around the world and the band has been selling CD copies on the tour they are currently on. Since it only takes one person to leak an album, we knew that sooner or later it would happen. Since the album’s release date isn’t until March 23rd, 2010, it is a little disheartening to know that people will be getting copies of the record and we won’t have any say at what bit rate the mp3s were encoded or whether the full album is being sent out in the order the band wanted it sequenced.

After talking it over with Look Mexico and their management, we have decided to post our pre-order today, Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 at 2pm MST. Every pre-order will receive an immediate email with a link and a download code to download “To Bed to Battle” as 328Kbps mp3s. We figured if the album has leaked, we would prefer making sure you get the album the way we want it heard.

At pre-order, we will have the CD, the LP, the digital album, and deluxe sets which will contain CD, LP, Pint Glass, Coozie, Poster, Button, and T-shirt.

Full disclosure: we have not yet received the test pressings but we do expect them very soon. We won’t have vinyl til the end of March or the first week of April.

Pressing info: the vinyl will be pressed in an edition of 1,000 copies over 2 colors of vinyl. 500 copies will be pressed on Salmon/Orange colored vinyl and 500 will be pressed on black vinyl. All future pressings will be pressed on black vinyl, but we will be changing the album artwork on the future pressings of the vinyl.

We will soon be posting a pre-order of the Look Mexico/Suburban Home Records’ mix tape which will be ready to ship before we start shipping the Look Mexico album. Bundle it or order it separately; it is a great listen.

With SXSW less than one month away, I think everyone is getting really excited, making their schedules, and a few close friends have even posted Podcasts/Playlists.

NINEBULLETS.NET FEBRUARY PODCAST: SxSW EDITION

I am currently listening to Nine Bullet’s latest podcast, one that was inspired by the bands they hope to see at this year’s SXSW. It sounding pretty damn good. Along with Suburban Home acts, Micah Schnabel and Austin Lucas, there are excellent tracks by Drive By Truckers, Lucero, Joe Pug, Glossary, American Aquarium, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, and lots more. I know for a fact that I will be doing a lot of hanging with the Nine Bullets crew, I am bummed though that I will be missing their SXSW party on Wednesday night as I get in really late that night. You can download the podcast here. I personally subscribe to their podcast feed so that whenever a new one is posted, it downloads into my Itunes.

F*ck You, It’s Friday! – Playlist 31

While listening to the Nine Bullets podcast, I downloaded the latest “Fuck You It’s Friday” playlist from Front Porch Musings. As you might have read, we were invited to help host a SXSW party with the good folks at Front Porch Musings, and this week’s FYIF playlist features tracks from our upcoming party. Consider it a preview of what you can expect at our party with tracks by Two Cow Garage, Look Mexico, Austin Lucas, The Only Sons, State Champion, Glossary, and American Aquarium. It should be a great listen. One complaint Front Porch Musings: Where’s the Micah Schnabel track? and I’m not sure how to best remedy this, but when I download the playlists in Itunes, it is hard to track and group all the songs on the playlist since it keeps all the info associated from the track in your Itunes. Maybe consider changing the album name or grouping with the name Front Porch Musings, that way, we can easily have the songs in one place. I guess that was 2 complaints (my bad). You can download the playlist here.

I am considering making a mixtape with tracks from our upcoming SXSW party and other SXSW artists that we are excited to see and handing them out at our party. Whether or not you are going to SXSW, I highly recommend you listen to these podcasts/playlists.

Ralph and Brandon have been fine-tuning the Suburban Home Records’ site and today, we are really proud to share with you all the hard work they put in. Please take a minute and visit Suburban Home Records Dot Com. While you are there, be sure to check out our new Listening Station that Ralph designed. You can stream the upcoming re-release of Micah Schnabel’s “When the Stage Light Goes Dim” and pretty much the entire Suburban Home catalog. If you want to stream one of the albums in the player, just drag the cover art to the left and it will begin playing. Want to stream something not shown? Just find the pull down menu in the lower right hand corner and it will pull up the album you want to hear.

We still have a few things that we plan to work on, but do us a favor, check it out, and let us know what you think. Thanks.
