THE GAMITS Re-unite for a new album, Tour of Japan

Late last year, our friend Bruce from CR japan/Punk in ya Face reminded us that it had been 5 years since the Gamits had called it a day. He asked if the Gamits might be interested in doing a reunion tour of Japan since the band once had a strong following there and as you might imagine, everyone was really into the idea. Chris Fogal, singer and primary songwriter of the Gamits was so into the idea that he got inspired to begin writing a new album. The lineup will be the same lineup that did the last tour of Japan which was Scott Weigel (formerly of the Fairlanes) and Forrest Bartosh (on again, off again member of the Gamits, current drummer of the Omens). The band will begin recording a new album in March which should see release Summer of 2010. The band will do a tour of Japan to support the album and there are talks about touring Europe and Russia. They will be playing a show or two in Denver and will be entertaining the idea of playing a handful of shows around the United States.

The Gamits broke up after releasing my favorite of their albums, “Antidote”. After they played their final show, we also compiled all of their studio albums, all of their b-sides and comp tracks, and their entire final show recorded live into a 4 CD box set that is still available. We plan to do a very limited vinyl pressing of “Antidote” before the new album is released.

As a long time fan of the band, i could not be more excited. The Gamits along with the Fairlanes were 2 of Suburban Home’s most notable early acts. So many great memories were had at Gamits shows and tours (I met my wife at a Gamits show on Wednesday, June 23rd 1999), I can’t wait to see them play again and listen to new material.

Chris Fogal plans to keep up a studio blog and film practices and acoustic versions of new songs. Stay tuned. Check out the Westword blog post and Chris Fogal Q&A here.

I leave you with 2 videos, the first is a video for the song “How To Escape” from Antidote and the second is live footage of the last song the Gamits ever performed live, “last of the mullets” from “Endorsed By You”
