IN THE RED “Volume 2″ LP/CD in stores now

Today, Tuesday, March 31st, we are excited to announce the release of In the Red’s 2nd album, “Volume 2″ on LP, CD, and digitally. Although In the Red’s first album came out only a year ago, it seems like an eternity separates the two albums. So much has happened since Mike Hale left Florida behind him (along with his band Gunmoll) for sunny California where he met Matt Glasgow at a Hot Water Music show and the two started jamming. Volume 1 represents a snapshot of Mike and Matt’s previous influences writing music that didn’t stray too far from their Gainesville roots. With the recording of Volume 2, Mike had decided he wanted to do something a little bit different. Probably the biggest difference you will hear on Volume 2 is Mike’s approach to vocals trading in some of his guttural screams for much cleaner singing. The result isn’t any less powerful and if you were to ask me, Volume 2 rocks in ways Volume 1 just can’t. The Hot Water Music/Leatherface influence is still noticeable on Volume 2, but this album also shows inspiration from Jawbreaker, Quicksand, and Nirvana. We love this album and still can’t believe that we had a hand in its release.

The album can be found at mom and pop record stores, Hot Topic, Interpunk, Shockhound, No Idea, Revelation (RevHQ) as well as digitally on Itunes, Emusic, Amazon, Rhapsody, and more. With the exception of bigger chain stores, you should be able to find the album wherever it is you buy music.

Are you still on the fence about picking up “Volume 2″? Here are just a few reasons/things for your consideration:

  • The album is an absolute rocker that should appeal to fans of Jawbreaker, Hot Water Music, Kiss of Death/No Idea Records, and even Nirvana. Take for example the following mp3s: “Unlaced” (mp3 from the SH site), “Jetbreaker” (exclusive download from Punknews.org)
  • On Thursday, April 2nd, you will be able to listen to the entire album as a full album stream from our friends at Punknews.org.
  • Mike Hale’s lyrics deal with real life and anyone who has experienced heartbreak should find solace in the songs.
  • Mike Hale recently decided to give up life as he knows it (gave up his lease, sold his truck, gave up his job) for life on the road (plans to tour all year long between In the Red and Mike Hale tours). That is truly commendable and anyone who has ever longed to do the same will hopefully find inspiration in Mike’s quest to become a full-time musician. Read about his adventures through his column at Punknews, “For Those Still Standing
  • Matt Glasgow, In the Red’s drummer, could quite possibly be the World’s Tallest Drummer at 6 foot 8. Don’t believe us, google it! We submitted him to the Guinness Book of World Records, but we recently received the news that they don’t recognize height by profession.
  • You can listen to an interview with Mike Hale on one of our favorite podcasts, Issue Oriented. Mike’s segment comes after an interview with this up and coming band I keep hearing great things about, Propagandhi.

We hope you check out the album; we are all really proud of it. Thanks for all your support.
