Taylor(LMD) finishes Tour Diary on Pastepunk / Have huge show tonight!

Love Me Destroyer wrapped up a great tour with Smoke or Fire and Taylor just wrote his final tour diary entry for Pastepunk. You can read the entire Love Me Destroyer tour diary here. Taylor did a really great job in giving you a glimpse into what it might be like touring with the band on what seemed like a really cool tour.

The guys have a really great show tonight with Anti-Flag, Big D and the Kids Table, and Set Your Goals at the Ogden Theater. Get their early if you are going as LMD are playing first.

The Best Guacamole in the World

Next to music, food is one of my greatest passions. My wife and I are always cooking and looking for new recipes. From time to time, I will share with you some of my favorite recipes. Feel free to add your favorite recipes in the comments section.

The Best Guacamole in the World!

This, in my opinion, is the best guacamole on the planet. We(my wife and I) saw it made on a Food Network show and make it every chance we get. This recipe is best when you have fresh corn, but it is still delicious with canned corn.

2 ears fresh corn (if out of season, ¾’s of a can of corn will work)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Salt and freshly ground pepper
2 ripe avocados, peeled, pitted and diced
1 Serrano Chile, finely chopped (a Jalapeño will also work)
1 red onion finely diced
1 lime, juiced
1/4 cup chopped cilantro leaves
Tortilla Chips

Remove the outer husk from the corn and loosen the silks without removing. Dunk into water and place directly onto a hot grill for 15 minutes. Remove from grill. Remove remaining husks and silks and cut the kernels off of the cob.

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.

Tim Barry tour with Smoke or Fire/Fifth Hour Hero starts today

Tim Barry and crew start an East Coast/Canada tour today in Birmingham, Alabama. We hope that if you are anywhere near any of these dates that you please go check out a show. I really can’t put into words how rad Tim is live. Those of you in bands, you should take a notepad and pen to the show and take notes on how Tim performs as a front man. His ability to tell stories and share with the crowd makes everyone feel like they are hanging out with Tim in their living room.

If you do go to the show, introduce yourself. Tim is such a nice guy and he loves meeting good folks. And don’t be bashful, Tim, Josh, and Caitlin all dig PBR.

Drag the River press – Boston Weekly and EuroPunk.net

Drag the River have been receiving a fair amount of press lately which is always nice for a little label like mine to see. The most recent pieces of press includes a show feature in Boston Weekly and a great review on EuroPunk.net.

To start with the piece called “Drag the River, the Undiscovered Country”, I took the following excerpt:

…the Fort Collins, CO, band somehow manages to make alt-county that owes little to Uncle Tupelo. As great as Tupelo was, they always sounded a little forced, as did the hundreds of bands they influenced (Son Volt, Bonnie Prince Billy, Calexico, et al.). There’s nothing like that in Drag the River.

With shit-kickin’ strummers like the Springsteen-bombed-on-Jack Daniel’s strains of “Me & Joe Drove Out to California,” they’re a band that all three Hank Williamses and all five Ramones could pound old sodas to. But with cry-in-your-Coors ballads like “Strange,” they also appeal to sissies who dig Jeff Tweedy and Will Oldham.

The mystery is how they do it. How, how, how?

“It’s just those open guitar chords that do it,” says Drag the River singer-guitarist Jon Snodgrass. “Hüsker Dü and The Replacements always played those open guitar chords in G-major, and those are country chords in country keys. And that’s what we do. We don’t call it alt-country. We call ourselves ‘country and Midwestern’ because we grew up listening to country and Minneapolis punk. Well, that and the Beatles.”

Read the entire feature here. I love the reference to Country and MidWestern as I think I might have been one of the first to call the band C + MW. I am sure someone else called them this though. The Europunk.net review was done by a friend of Suburban Home, Ben Conoley. One excerpt I particularly like in the review is this one:

One of It’s Crazy’s strongest attributes is that it’s clear this is a band comprised of friends who want to be playing music together. Its 12 songs sound as though they were written on creaky front-porches or around camp fires, and are probably best enjoyed in such a setting.

T-shirt Super Sale part 2 – This one’s for the Ladies!

T-Shirt Super Sale – Women’s Sizes
(6 Items for $18.00)

This sale is very similar to the shirt sale we ran last week, this time though we are only dealing in Women’s sizes. Take a look at the descriptions and find your size. There are some really cool shirts and you will never find these kinds of deals again. Note that most of the shirts and skirts are American Apparel so make sure you know your size in AA. Good luck. The last sale sold out in like 8 hours so hopefully you get one in time!

Drag the River covers “Old Sad Songs” by Lucero

There has been enough Drag the River news lately that it is only a matter of time before Dateline does an expose. Anyways the latest news and this is really cool news is that Drag the River recently hung out with the folks from Lucero. Rick Stef played some piano and accordion on the latest Drag recording and while at the studio, Jon, Rick, and John Stubblefield (of Lucero) sat down and did a Lucero cover. You see Lucero are putting together a Lucero tribute compilation and Drag were one of the bands asked to perform a cover. Jon recorded “Old Sad Songs” from Tennessee and for a very brief time you can listen to it on the Drag the River Myspace page. Enjoy! The cover is unbelievable.

On Guard joins the Suburban Home Family

After a very nice conversation with Jason Shevchuck, it was agreed that Suburban Home would release his debut album. For those of you who don’t know Jason and On Guard, Jason has for the past 10 years fronted the legendary acts Kid Dyanmite and None More Black. On Guard is his latest project. He is currently recording the songs that will make up this debut album which should come out this Fall. You can listen to a few demo recordings on his Myspace page. Words cannot describe how excited I am to work with On Guard. I have been the biggest fan of Kid Dynamite and None More Black and I would have never guessed in a million years that one day we would be able to work with Jason on a project. Although details have not been finalized for the upcoming album, it is certain that we will be releasing On Guard’s debut on LP and CD and distributing it digitally and the really cool thing is that we will be working with Jason to make sure that proceeds from the album will go to a number of charities. Stay tuned but understand that we are stoked!

Drag the River / Jon Snodgrass news

I wanted to give all of you a little more news on the Drag the River /Jon Snodgrass news. I just got off the phone with Dave and just spoke to Jon. Without getting into specifics(he said/she said shit), it is true that Jon has left the tour. The remaining members (Chad Price, Dave Barker, Chad Rex) are motoring on and playing both the Drag the River sets and playing with Rocky Votolato. There is no official word on exactly what will happen after this tour. Expect us to do our best to report this from both sides of the story as we get more updates.

Please do your best to ignore rumors as I am sure a lot of things are going to be said on this topic in the coming weeks.

Chris from the Gamits selling Gamits’ Van on Craigs List

My good buddy, Chris Fogal, and former Gamits‘ singer, called me yesterday to see if I could post a link to his Craig’s List ad for the sale of his van. This is the van that the Gamits used to do many of their tours including a tour with Lagwagon/Yellowcard, a tour with Over It, a couple tours with the Fairlanes, and if my memory serves me correctly a tour with the Queers. If you read the listing, Chris explains that he has put in a lot of money into the van over the last year and that it is in fine running condition. He is only asking $2,000.00 which is a drop in the bucket for a great touring van. Bands, please take note. Friends, if you know a band looking for a van, tell them to get in touch with Chris.
