What are the best Drunk Songs ever written?

As you can already tell, we at Suburban Home enjoy our drink. We love to drink and we love songs about drinking. To me, a true measure of a band’s live performance is their ability to inspire you to drink. There have been times when I have gone to see Drag the River or the Gamits not intending to drink, saw the bands play, and next thing you know I am tossing back Jager shots.

I am looking for your help. I want your feedback on some of the best drunk songs ever written. I am hoping to put together a free downloadable compilation containing some of the best drunk songs with the purpose of promoting the re-release of Drag the River’s Closed. Drag has the song, “Get Drunk” and if you haven’t heard it, it is a drinking anthem. I figured if I could track down and get permission from labels that have released some of these incredible drunk songs, I could give away the greatest drinking compilation on the planet. I will definitely be including tracks by Tim Barry, The Gamits, and Love Me Destroyer. I will also be asking the permission of labels to use songs by Lucero, Dillinger Four, NOFX, Flogging Molly, and more.

Now, I need your help. What independently released songs do you think are essential for this project? Leave your suggestions in the comments. Thanks.

Love Me Destroyer “The Things Around Us Burn” MP3 posted

I mentioned a few days ago that we would be posting this mp3 and well, here it is. I really hope you dig it as I think this is the band’s most accomplished work to date. You might notice that Scooter has improved on his singing quite a bit and that the recording is so much better. I am excited about releasing the album and really think that people will be really impressed by this album. Enjoy

Drunk Dial – Taco Bell Sucks, Tim Barry Rules

“Tim Barry is the Shit” 11/26/06, 2:49 a.m., San Diego, CA - The caller calls to first complain that Taco Bell sucks for closing at 1 a.m. in their hood which confirms my thoughts that Taco Bell only seems like a rad idea when you are completely hosed. That, at least for me, is the only reason I ever eat there. After his tirade on Taco Bell, he mentions that he works for a certain publication that just reviewed Tim Barry’s album and he says that the record is awesome. I am trying to think which magazine you work with, maybe Modern Fix? Anyways thanks for reviewing the record and thanks for the call. My favorite part is when he calls a 2nd time and says that he had just called and since that last call, he is now really drunk. The first call was only 4 minutes before the 2nd call. Awesome!

Drunk Dial – Denver needs to get on board with the Chimi

Late night Chimichangas are the best! 11/22/06, 2:23 a.m., New Mexico – Seabron (Suburban Home staff) and her girlfriend enjoy some late night Chimichangas after a night of partying and Ashley (seab’s friend) explains the amazing qualities their late night Chimi’s have. She also explains that Colorado just isn’t on board with the late night Chimi options. One can only hope that this drunk dial will get restaurants to offer all of us drunks more options in the fried burrito category.

Drag the River going back out on tour with Lucero

Drag came back for about a week after an East Coast tour with Lucero. They will be leaving again this week to rejoin Lucero on what should be an incredible tour of the South. The tour starts Friday, December 1st with 2 shows in Austin, Texas. One of the shows is a really big festival show with Spoon, The Circle Jerks, and more. I am really excited for Drag to be on this leg of the tour as it should give our boys lots of exposure to new music fans. They will be playing in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and more. If you live in the South, please go early as Drag are playing first on most dates.

The new album is a big step up for the band and we are hoping for very good things in 2007 for Love Me Destroyer.

Drunk Dial – Scooter from Love Me Destroyer

“Funyuns and Pizza rule” 11/23/06, 2:15 a.m., Denver, CO – I am not 100 percent, but it sounds like our good friend Scooter of Love Me Destroyer. He calls in and starts by complaining that local Burrito restaurant, Illegal Petes, are out of food. After a short Mel Gibson tirade, he closes by saying that Funyuns and Pizza kick ass. I agree my friend!

Drunk Dial – Air Supply in Laughlin, NV =’s Best Thanksgiving ever

“We’re Contemplating a 3 way Gay Marriage” 11/23/06, 9:47 p.m., Laughlin, NV – Drunk Dial regulars Sean-Michael (of Mammoth Press) and Kevin Wade (formerly of Punkrocks.net) and their good buddy Casey (of Lobster Records) call right after seeing an Air Supply concert in Laughlin, Nevada. The show has motivated all three guys to contemplate a 3 way marriage or civil union. They recommend all of us to see Air Supply the next time they tour through our towns.

The Suburban Home Pint Glasses have arrived

Alright folks, today is a good day! We received the pint glasses that makes up the Suburban Home pint glass set. Guess what the first thing we did when we got them? That’s right, we cleaned out a couple of sets and poured ourselves some very tasty beers. I might add that it might be the excitement of getting the glasses, but I could swear that my beer tasted even better having been drunk out of one of the Drag the River “Get Drunk” pint glasses. Those of you who have placed orders for the sets will be super stoked. If you haven’t placed your order yet, what are you waiting for? These will make a great gift for you or for a friend and trust me when I say that these will beat the hell out of your big gulp plastic cups from 7-11.  Pre-orders will be sent out on Tuesday morning.

Alternative Press gives “Rivanna Junction” 4 out of 5!

We have been posting a number of reviews recently and so far (knock on wood), all of the reviews have been very favorable. We just got the new issue of Alternative Press in the mail today and we are again stoked to report another great review. AP gave “Rivanna Junction” a 4 out of 5 and had this to say”

…the leader of Richmond, Virginia’s melodic hardcore vets Avail has released an honest, unhyphenated folk album, among the best of its kind since Ryan Adams’ Heartbreaker.

We scanned in the review and following interview in case you want to read it. The file is a bit big so be patient. The interview is worth reading, too, as Tim discusses Avail, playing shows, hopping trains, and folk/punk. I just want to say thanks to Alternative Press for deeming “Rivanna Junction” worthy of taking up nearly an entire page in your magazine. I know Tim’s music isn’t what AP is most known for, but it means a lot to me that they took the time and interest to review and interview Tim.
