I just read a really great review of “It’s Crazy” by Soundaslanguage. The review compares Drag to Drive By Truckers and Lucero and the reviewer even says that they would take Drag over Lucero any day. Those are very kind words. Read the review here.
Love Me Destroyer have began recording their new album this week. They are recording at the new 8 Houses Down location with Matt VanLeuven as engineer. Suburban Home’s very own Brandon Proff (formerly of Fear Before the March of Flames) will be producing the album. They will record for the next 4 weeks for their 2nd album on Suburban Home which we plan to release in early 2007. We will keep you posted on the recording.
We are excited to announce that September marks Suburban Home’s 11th Anniversary. It is pretty unreal that we are still alive and kicking despite the ups and downs we have had over the past few years and the current music marketplace. For that, we plan on celebrating! The festivities include bringing newest Suburban Home artist, Tim Barry, out to Denver to play a few shows.
The shows include two on Saturday, September 23rd:
7pm at the Hi Dive (all ages) w/ Love Me Destroyer, Tim Barry, Signal to Noise, and the Masquerade Scene.
This will be followed up by a late night drunk fest across the street at Three Kings (21+) w/ Drag the River and Tim Barry.
We will then nurse our hangovers and drag our collective asses over to the Larimer Lounge (21+) for an afternoon barbecue show and washers’ tournament. The barbecue show will include Tim Barry, Drag the River, Ghost Buffalo, Casey James Prestwood (of Drag the River) and some friends.
The washers’ tournament info will be announced soon, but the winners will receive a free bar tab compliments of the Larimer Lounge and tons of free music. It should be noted that Kyle (of Suburban Home) and myself are the reigning champions of last year’s washers tournament. I should also note that the barbecue show is completely free so bring all of your friends.
We hope you can make it out for all three shows. We promise nothing but good times, great music, and lots of boozing!

If you are a Drag the River fan, it is very likely that you like to get your drink on. I can’t speak for all drag fans, but Drag are one of those bands who I see live and they just make me want to get drunk. Watching a Drag set with a good buzz is one of the best live shows, in my opinion. Inspired by the Drag song, “Get Drunk”, we decided to make the raddest Drag the River shirt on the planet. I know what you are thinking, that is a bold statement. Well, the front of the shirt says, “I Love to Get Drunk” and the back says, “With Drag the River”. This should become official uniform for Drag the River shows and should become your weekend t-shirt for when you hit the bars. Nothing says its time to party like this T-shirt. Not one to rely on music sales alone, we are always looking for new types of merchandise to offer for our bands and their fans. We found a rad place that offers zippo style flip lighters. We decided to make one for Drag and one for LMD. The lighters look great and make the perfect accessorie for anyone who has a use for a lighter.
Lighters don’t come with lighter fluid (it would be illegal to ship them, if they did). We will mail you instructions on how to add lighter fluid into the lighters.

We just got in a batch of new Suburban Home T-shirts. You might notice that the design is the same as that of our free sampler. We had commissioned Ryan Patterson of rocking band, Coliseum, to design the art for our free sampler and we liked the design so much, we asked him to make it into a t-shirt design. While waiting for the t-shirts to be printed, I noticed a comment regarding our free sampler on Emusic. Someone commented that the art looks like the art from “Return of the Blind Dead” so we named the shirt after the movie. Pictured : Marshall and Hannah. As the photo suggests, they are available in Red and Blue:
We just got in the vinyl copies of Drag the River’s Esta Loco. Not only does the vinyl look amazing, they sound so good. It reminded me just how incredible vinyl can sound. I spend yesterday afternoon listening to each color in succession! We still have a handful of colored copies available so do not waste time picking up your copies. You can find all of the colored options at Vinyl Collective.
The sampler we posted for free a little while back is now available for free on Emusic. There were a few kinks to work out as they initially were charging for the comp, but it is now available in all its glory here. If you haven’t checked out Emusic, it is one of the best sites for mp3 purchases as they sell DRM-free mp3s at a fraction of the cost as all of their competitors and they have one of the biggest collections of mp3s.
The latest issue of Wonkavision, issue #34, features a cover story called “Going Solo” and in those pages are interviews with Matt Pryor formerly of Get Up Kids, Jeremy Enigk of Sunny Day Real Estate, Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music, and our very own Tim Barry of Avail on his upcoming solo album. Turn to page 64 and you will read all bout Tim’s decision to make solo music as well as details of the upcoming album. We could not be more stoked that Wonkavision did the story.
It is with great excitement that we bring you Vinyl Collective. VC is our vinyl-only online record store. We have lots of big ideas for this site and hope that it can become your one-stop destination for your new vinyl needs. As I have been thinking about this project for a while, I offer you a few reasons why you should check out Vinyl Collective:
